Stevan Dohanos was an American painter and illustrator known for his detailed realist depictions of American small-town life and commercial subjects in the mid-twentieth century. Working primarily in oil and watercolor, he developed a precise, sharply focused style that captured domestic interiors, storefronts, and everyday scenes with documentary clarity. His work appeared frequently in major American magazines and advertising campaigns during the postwar era. Dohanos combined technical precision with an affection for vernacular American culture, treating ordinary moments and ordinary places as subjects worthy of close formal attention.
