Jochen Lempert works in black-and-white photography and 16mm film to document insects, plants, and other biological systems with scientific precision and formal restraint. Since the 1980s, his practice has maintained patient observation of overlooked organisms without narrative overlay or anthropomorphic interpretation. Each photograph and film strip functions as a record of visual fact, drawing strength from the tension between scientific documentation and poetic attention to marginal life forms.
