Oumar Ka was a Senegalese painter and sculptor whose practice spanned the post-independence era, engaging with modernist abstraction and figuration across both media. Working from the 1950s onward, he developed a distinctive formal language that navigated between European modernism and African aesthetic traditions. Ka's work remains central to the history of Senegalese visual culture during a period of radical cultural and political transformation.
