Giovanni Odazzi was an Italian Baroque painter active in Rome during the early eighteenth century. He worked primarily in fresco and oil, executing altarpieces and large-scale religious commissions for churches throughout the city. His style synthesized the dramatic lighting and emotional intensity of the Roman High Baroque with a more restrained, decorative sensibility suited to the post-Baroque period. Odazzi maintained a productive workshop that trained numerous pupils and contributed significantly to the visual culture of papal Rome during the final decades of the ancien régime.
