Jean-Baptiste-Nicolas Le Prince was a French painter and etcher trained under François Boucher in Paris, whose early work adopted the decorative sensibility and thematic concerns of rococo painting. Born in Metz in 1734, he became known for his etchings and paintings that refined Boucher's manner into works of particular delicacy and narrative refinement. His prints and canvases circulated widely throughout Europe, establishing him as a significant practitioner of French rococo across both mediums.
