Ask a plain question — movements, influence, education, exhibitions, holdings, peers. Every answer carries its provenance.
John Roddam Spencer Stanhope was a British painter working in oil, watercolor, fresco, tempera, and mixed media. His subjects ranged across mythology, allegory, biblical narrative, and contemporary scenes. Associated with the Pre-Raphaelite movement, Stanhope worked alongside Edward Burne-Jones and George Frederic Watts, and his practice intersected with Aestheticism and British Symbolism. Born in Yorkshire, he spent his later years in Florence.
