Carlos Scliar was a Brazilian painter and muralist whose work emerged from the postwar modernist movement in São Paulo. Working primarily in oil and fresco, he developed a distinctive approach to figuration that synthesized European constructivism with Brazilian social realism. His murals and easel paintings addressed themes of labor, dignity, and urban life with formal rigor and expressive intensity. Scliar remained committed to socially engaged art throughout his career, maintaining a practice rooted in direct observation and formal experimentation.
