Georges Goursat, known professionally as Sem, was a French printmaker and caricaturist renowned for his sharp observational humor and fluid line work. Active from the 1880s through the 1930s, he documented Parisian society with particular focus on the leisure classes, theater world, and cultural figures of the Belle Époque and interwar periods. His prints, executed primarily in lithography and etching, combine satirical wit with technical refinement, capturing both costume and character in economical, expressive strokes. Sem's work appeared regularly in leading French periodicals and established him as one of the era's most influential social commentators through the medium of print.
