Jean-Charles Blais is a French painter and collage artist who layers torn paper, charcoal, and gestural mark-making to dissolve the boundary between abstraction and figuration. Since the 1980s, his practice has emphasized process and impermanence, working across monumental and intimate scales on canvas, walls, and found materials. His approach treats the surface as a site of accumulation and erasure, where architectural interventions and urban detritus become compositional elements rather than decorative additions.
