Michael Joo works across sculpture, photography, printmaking, and painting, binding scientific language and process to questions of cultural identity, natural history, and the transmission of meaning between bodies and systems. His installations and objects operate at points of threshold, where biological, cultural, and material forces meet without resolving. The structural logic of his work owes something to Joseph Beuys in its refusal to separate material choice from symbolic weight. Joo is a Senior Critic in Sculpture at Yale University and teaches in the MFA program at Columbia University.
