Rex Whistler was a British painter, illustrator, and theatrical designer known for his precise, intricate line work and romantic figuration executed in a distinctly English decorative idiom. Working across mural painting, book illustration, and stage design during the 1920s and 1930s, he developed a sophisticated visual language that combined historical pastiche with contemporary wit. His practice was cut short by his death in 1944 during World War II.
