Tomoko Sawada is a Japanese photographer and videographer whose practice centers on systematic self-portraiture and absurdist transformations of her own image. Working with conceptual rigor and documentary conventions, she interrogates the relationship between appearance, persona, and social expectation through repeated cycles of self-representation. Her work destabilizes the assumed authenticity of the photographic document by treating her body as both subject and instrument of formal investigation.
