William Reid Dick

William Reid Dick was a Scottish sculptor who developed a distinctive approach to monumental form through stylised abstraction and portraiture marked by severe elegance. Elected Associate of the Royal Academy in 1921 and Royal Academician in 1928, he served as president of the Royal Society of British Sculptors and held the position of Sculptor in Ordinary for Scotland to the Crown from 1938 until his death in 1961. His practice ranged from large-scale public monuments to intimate portrait heads, each characterised by formal restraint and simplified volumes that anticipated modernist sculpture.
