Yun Hyong-keun applied burnt umber and ultramarine blue to raw canvas and linen in layered, smeared gestures that conveyed Korean sensibility of reflection and meditation. A key figure in the Dansaekhwa movement, he worked with minimal color and material restraint, allowing the weave of unprimed fabric to remain visible and integral to the composition. His approach treated painting as a process of reduction rather than accumulation, where surface texture and chromatic subtlety became vehicles for contemplative experience.
