Richard Maxfield was an American composer and pioneer of electronic music working in the 1950s and 1960s. He created some of the earliest tape compositions and sound installations, often incorporating chance operations and found sounds into formally structured works. His practice bridged experimental music and visual art, influencing the development of intermedia and performance-based sound art in the postwar period.
