Mercury, Herse and Aglauros

Frans Wouters was a Flemish painter and draughtsman active in the 17th century, known for mythological and historical compositions executed in oil and ink. Born in the Habsburg Netherlands in 1612, he worked within the Antwerp tradition of Baroque narrative painting, producing both large-scale altarpieces and intimate cabinet works. His drawings demonstrate a fluid, descriptive line technique characteristic of Northern European draftsmanship of the period.
