Antoine Chintreuil was a French landscape painter of the nineteenth century who worked primarily in oil on canvas, documenting rural and agricultural scenes with a naturalistic attention to atmospheric effect and seasonal light. Active during the mid-1800s, he was part of a generation of painters who moved landscape painting away from Romantic convention toward direct observation of the French countryside. His work bridges the formal traditions of academic landscape and the emerging plein-air approach that would define later landscape modernism.
