Fujishima Takeji was a Japanese painter and printmaker who trained in Western academic methods while maintaining a distinctive synthesis with Japanese compositional principles. Active from the late Meiji period through the early Showa era, he worked across oil painting, watercolor, and woodblock print, often depicting landscapes, portraits, and theatrical subjects with a refined attention to light and atmospheric effect.
