Prerowstrom

Marianne von Werefkin was a Russian-born painter and printmaker who worked primarily in oils and watercolors, developing an expressive figurative practice rooted in Symbolism and early modernist abstraction. Active across Europe from the 1880s onward, she became a central figure in Munich's avant-garde circles and co-founded the Blaue Reiter movement. Her compositions often depicted psychological states through distorted form and heightened color, moving progressively toward non-objective work.
