The Beach, Largo, at Low Tide

George Leslie Hunter is a Scottish painter associated with the group known as the Scottish Colourists, whose still lifes, landscapes, and harbor scenes employ bold, luminous color influenced by French Post-Impressionism and Fauvism. Born in Rothesay and raised partly in California, he returned to Scotland and developed a painterly directness marked by thick impasto and vivid tonal contrasts.
