Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz was a Polish painter, playwright, and theorist whose multidisciplinary practice anticipated modernist fragmentation and psychological abstraction. Working across oil painting, printmaking, and theatre from the early 1900s until his death in 1939, he developed a formal vocabulary of distorted faces and fractured geometries that registered emotional states and social alienation. His theoretical writings on art and aesthetics, alongside his visual output, positioned him as a proto-Expressionist figure in interwar European culture.
