Juan Batlle Planas was an Argentine painter and draughtsman whose work bridged Surrealism and abstraction in the postwar period. Working primarily in oil and ink, he developed a distinctive visual language of biomorphic forms and gestural mark-making that suggested psychological states without narrative content. Active in Buenos Aires during the 1940s and 1950s, Batlle Planas became a significant figure in Argentine modernism, influencing the direction of abstract art in Latin America.
