Mechanical Insect

Aart van den IJssel was a Dutch painter and sculptor active in the postwar period. Working primarily in abstraction, he developed a geometric vocabulary that engaged with constructivist principles and the Dutch modernist tradition. Based in the Netherlands, van den IJssel's practice bridged painting and three-dimensional form throughout his career from the 1940s until his death in 1983.
