<p>While working on the monumental <em>0–9</em> project, Johns made this additional version of the <em>Figure 1</em> image. Like his colleagues—Dine, Rosenquist, and other artists—Johns frequently made small studies related to his work in progress while waiting for the printers to complete proofing and other tasks in the workshop.</p>
