Peter Roehr
Painting
Peter Roehr was a German artist whose brief career, cut short by his death at twenty-four, anticipated conceptual and systematic approaches that would define 1970s art practice. Working in the mid-1960s, he created grid-based compositions and photomontages that treated mass media imagery and commercial typography as raw material for formal investigation. His work engaged with the visual saturation of postwar consumer culture through methodical, almost mechanical repetition and arrangement.
