Karl Hartung was a German sculptor whose abstract forms emerged from a rigorous engagement with volume and space in the postwar period. Working primarily in bronze and stone, his monumental works distilled organic geometry into essential shapes that dialogue with their surrounding architectural and landscape contexts. Active from the 1950s onward, Hartung developed a sculptural language distinct from both figuration and gestural abstraction, grounded in constructive principles and material restraint.
