Target II

From 1967 to 1969 Johns worked intensively in etching, creating two significant portfolios entitled 1st Etchings (1967–68) and 1st Etchings, 2nd State (1967–68). The artist returned to his tiny target plate, and using the skills he had acquired the previous two years, he reworked the plate, transforming it into this luminous state.
