<p>What Frankenthaler had only just begun to explore in her woodcuts at Universal Limited Art Editions (U.L.A.E.) emerged as a tour de force when she worked with Kenneth Tyler at Tyler Graphics. Abandoning the jigsaw, Frankenthaler invented a technique she called “guzzying.” She worked the wood’s surface with a variety of implements to create an uneven, undulating surface that, when combined with transparent inks, produced watercolor-like effects.</p>
