Toreador by Juan Soriano

Juan Soriano was a Mexican painter and sculptor whose formal abstraction emerged from postwar modernism. Working primarily in oil on canvas and carved stone, his compositions balance geometric rigor with lyrical color and organic form. Active from the 1940s through the early 2000s, Soriano developed a distinctive vocabulary of interlocking planes and biomorphic shapes that bridged European constructivism and indigenous Mexican spatial traditions.
