Australian Landscape 2004 #1

Australian Landscape 2004 #1 is simultaneously otherworldly and grounded in place. Vibrant stripes of pink, yellow, and blue undulate through the carved glass form, which opens in places to reveal a hollow interior. Marvin Lipofsky often named his sculptures after the location where he collaborated with other glass professionals to create the base shape. This practice earned him the moniker “roving ambassador of glass,” as he traveled around the world making lively blown glassworks that he then shipped back to his California, studio to carve, etch, grind, and sand into their final, wild forms.
