Watts Index, operated by Studio Watts LLC, is an institutional data product: a structured, source-verified database of artists, artworks, exhibitions, and institutions, offered through this website, verification reports, and a data API.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly: name, email address, organization, role, and the use-case details you submit when requesting access. If you hold an account, we also collect authentication data and records of your API and report usage. We do not ask for or collect artwork submissions, portfolios, or social-media handles.

3. Payment Information

Payment processing is handled by Stripe. We do not store credit card numbers or sensitive payment data on our servers. Stripe's privacy policy governs their handling of your payment information.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to evaluate access requests, provision and secure accounts, deliver verification reports and API services, meter usage against your license, and communicate about your account. We do not sell personal information.

5. The Public Record

The database itself contains factual, source-attributed information about public figures in visual culture — artists, designers, institutions — compiled from museums, authority files, and other published sources. It is a factual record analogous to a catalogue raisonné or library authority file, and is maintained separately from any personal information covered by this policy. Corrections to the record can be requested at any time via the contact below.

6. Data Storage

Your data is stored using Supabase (database) and Cloudflare R2 (assets). These services maintain their own security and privacy standards.

7. Email Communications

We send transactional emails related to your account, access requests, reports, and billing. We do not send marketing email without consent.

8. Data Retention & Deletion

Account and access-request data is retained while your account is active or your request is pending, and for a reasonable period afterwards for security and legal purposes. You may request deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us; we will delete it within 30 days of your request.
