Johan van der Keuken was a Dutch filmmaker and photographer working in 16mm film and color photography across five decades of postwar European culture. His observational approach treated everyday life, labor, and urban experience as sites of visual and philosophical inquiry, avoiding both aesthetic preciousness and didactic moralizing. His films and photographs developed a distinctive essay-like quality that engaged directly with the texture of ordinary experience.
