Johan van der Keuken was a Dutch filmmaker and photographer whose practice encompassed documentary, essay film, and still photography across five decades of postwar European culture. Working with 16mm film and color photography, he developed a distinctly observational approach that treated the everyday world as a site of visual and philosophical inquiry. His films and photographs consistently engaged with labor, urban life, and the texture of ordinary experience, refusing both aesthetic preciousness and didactic moralizing.
