Pair of Covered Dishes
Peter BergWW-1912-014239

This pair of covered dishes reflects the influence of Scandinavian metalwork on Chicago’s silversmiths. A sketch for this specific model can be found in the notebooks of Peter Berg, who joined the Kalo Shop in 1909. Born in Norway, Berg received his training in that country before coming to America. Here he translated the sleek, organic forms of Scandinavian silver, popularized by designers such as the Danish metalsmith Georg Jensen, into an unmistakably Chicago product through the addition of the hammered surface and handles. According to a note in Berg’s sketchbook, each dish took 65 hours to make.
