Václav Vytlacil was an American painter whose abstract compositions balanced geometric precision with expressive gesture, working primarily in oil on canvas. Born in New York to Czech immigrant parents, he developed a systematic approach to color theory and formal relationships that defined both his painting practice and his influential teaching across multiple institutions throughout the twentieth century. His rigor in chromatic relationships and structural composition shaped modernist pedagogy in America.
